Apple Rolls Out TV Ad for iPad with Possible E-Book Prices

iPad-1.jpgThe new iPad television commercial was a surprise during last night’s Oscars, and so were some of the clues revealed inside the ad.

Specifically, one shot (above) showed the possible price range of iPad e-books, and another (below) revealed where documents will be stored in Apple’s software.

The iPad commercial showed the True Compass: A Memoir novel for $14.99, the novel I, Alex Cross for $12.99, and Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World… One Child at a Time for $7.99.

By way of comparison, those same titles cost $19.25, $9.99 and $7.19, respectively, for the Amazon Kindle.

As for documents, the ad shows that the iPad keeps documents inside a folder marked “My Documents” inside the iWork app — the same folder name for the documents folder on a Mac. That’s nothing mindblowing, but we weren’t aware of the nomenclature prior to the ad.

It's lights, camera, and almost "action" for Apple's iPad tablet. During Sunday night's Academy Awards ceremony Apple trotted its iPad down the Hollywood red carpet (so to speak) launching a television advertising campaign. According to reports Steve Jobs himself joined the roster of stars attending Sunday night's event in person.

According to the commercial, Apple's iPad device will launch on April 3. Pre-orders for the iPad will start on March 12 for the Wi-Fi only version in the U.S., and 3G enabled versions will come out later in April.
