My Commodore Portable SX-64 Color Computer 1983

Here's a short video and some pictures of my 80's Commodore 64 portable SX-64 color computer. Believe it or not this old 1983 commadore portable (it weighs about 50 pounds) computer is still in running order and usable with only 64K of memory.


The Commodore 64 was my first home computer. Back in the 80s as some of you old time computer geeks may remember in the 80s the Commodore 64 was the only affordable home computer on the market. As I remember I spent most of my time tweaking the computer just to get the programs to run on the Commodore 64. I belong to a local club of Commodore 64 users that would get together once a week and trade tips and programs for the Commodore 64.

 

 



Some of the pictures below will show you how big and bulky the (so-called) portable computer was. The handle on the bottom of the computer would fold up into a handle and the keyboard would snap into the face of the computer for easy transport.

 

On one of the pictures below you can compare the new iPod 2 to the much older Commodore 64 portable computer. The much smaller iPad 2 has 1000's of times the processing power of the much bigger and older Commodore 64. See the pictures and video below.
