What
is a Trojan horse: A trojan horse virus allows
a remote attacker to access the victim's computer across
a network, like the Internet. You've no doubt heard of
the story of the Trojan horse written by the Greek poet
Homer in his famous book The Iliad. To understand that
story is to understand a Trojan Horse virus on a computer.
The Trojan horse story. In the story the Greeks (not Geeks) give a giant wooden horse to their
enemies, the Trojans, as a peace offering. The unsuspecting
Trojans drag the horse into Troy, a walled city. Once
inside Greek soldiers, who are hiding in the horse's hollow
belly, open the city gates and the Greek army pours in
and takes Troy by force. Also see all
about Firewall's.
TrojanHunter: TrojanHunter removes trojans from your system.
HTML Virus: With
the release of Windows98, a new virus was able to be produced.
The HTML virus. This virus is embed into the HTML code
of a malicious website. Through the use of Internet Explorer
and VBscript built into Win98 it then can access your
hard drive.A example of the virus that does nothing can
be found here. Since the mention of getting a virus through
HTML, anti-virus companies have been having a hay day.
A lot of it is just scare tactics, to get the customer
to buy their product. The settings in Internet Explorer
by default will warn you of the virus. Also Netscape is
not affected. So to protect yourself from the virus, keep
your security settings in IE on.

Once
a viral infection has been detected, it
can be contained by immediately isolating computers on
networks, halting the exchange of files, and using only
write-protected disks. In order for a computer system
to recover from a viral infection, the virus must first
be eliminated.
Some antivirus software attempts to remove
detected viruses, but sometimes with unsatisfactory results.
More reliable results are obtained by turning off the
infected computer; restarting it from a write-protected
boot floppy disk; deleting infected files and replacing
them with legitimate files from backup disks; and erasing
any viruses on the boot sector. Remember to come back
