Win
Me is it worth getting?
Windows Me is it worth getting?
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com
There are really only four things included
in Win Me that you can't download for free. Of them, only
the System Restore feature is a tempting addition. If
you do a lot of Windows tweaking and registry editing,
you might want it. But still a lots of money for not so
many enhancements. Priced at $49 to $179, depending on
prior ownership of Microsoft products. Should you get
Windows ME? If you are getting a new machine and have
a choice of operating systems, instead of Windows 95 or
98, get Windows Me (or at least a promise of a free upgrade).
Most Windows 98 users can safely pass unless they have
a special need that is only met by the new version (like
UPnP support). If you are still on Windows 95, you should
think seriously about an upgrade.
Windows Me has some significant
new features:
By Raymond, WebTechGeek.com -
System Restore provides Windows Me users
with important reassurance that a buggy system can be
put back right. DOS has gone through some major changes,
mainly to keep Windows from booting up into real-mode
DOS. Media support in Windows Me is enhanced with image
acquisition software for scanners and digital cameras,
and Media Player for streaming audio and video clips.
MSN Messenger is now integrated with Windows Me. New features:
Video capture and editing software, The ability to roll
back system settings to an earlier stage, Support for
acquiring pictures for Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
enabled devices (many recent digital cameras and scanners
are WIA enabled), Better graphics viewers for viewing
digital images, Improved Home Networking Wizard, Support
for certain specialized recently released hardware like
ACPI device bay and Universal Plug 'n Play, Improved dialogs
for things like File Find.
