Longhorn's most useful Speed Boost feature 'leaked' as XP tweak:
I found this Windows XP tip on this Internet. They claim it works, but I haven't tired it yet. If you want to test it yourself back-up first!
" Microsoft claims Longhorn will be, faster!
The only reason why its faster is they added a superfetch feature to the prefetcher. If you look at the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetcher
you will notice in windows xp
EnablePrefetcher = 3 and you will notice in windows longhorn
EnableSuperfetch = 1
Well, guess what? You can put the EnableSuperfetch = 1 in windows xp and get the same speed.
Microsoft just added a feature that was already there in xp."
(At your own risk! - and back-up before you make changes.)
Lucid
1.2
Lucid will allow you to make any window
transparent by simply dragging an icon over it. You
can add as many windows as you want, and they will switch
between the minimum and maximum user defined transparency
as they are activated and deactivated. It uses the window
class name instead of the window title text. This makes
it easy to add transparency to all windows of a certain
program such as Internet Explorer. It can be enabled
and disabled quickly from its simple system tray interface.
For Windows XP/2000.
Note: Lucid 1.2 BETA is not fully
tested, use at your own risk.

Defrag from the Command Line:
By Raymond
A feature of previous bundled defragment
utilities that has been noticeably missing from previous
versions of Windows is the ability to start it from a
command line. Thankfully, this feature exists now in the
version of the defragger that ships as part of Windows
XP. Many third-party defraggers have had this capability
for years, and it is essential very useful when starting
the defrag as part of a script or batch file.
Here is the syntax of the defrag utility:
defrag <volume> [-a] [-f] [-v] [-?]
volume drive letter or mount point (d: or d:\vol\mountpoint)
-a Analyze only
-f Force defragmentation even if free space is low
-v Verbose output

CursorXP
1.2
CursorXP
is a Freeware program that takes advantage of the new
visual effects features of Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
With it, users can create and use cursors that look and
feel far superior to anything you've ever seen before.
Best of all, it's really easy to create your own super-charged
cursors. It integrates into the standard Mouse interface
of Windows and is easy to turn on and off as you need.
Current Version: Provides full compatibility
with the latest DirectX games (such as Neverwinter Nights)
Uses no more resources than a regular Windows mouse cursor.

Getting an Older Program to Run on Windows XP tip:
Do your older application gives you trouble when running
in Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
* Rightclick the executable or the program shortcut
to the executable, and then click Properties.
* Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check
box.
* From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
* If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when youre finished changing
the settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again
if the program is still not running smoothly: a program
thats unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows
98.
Removing MSN Messenger from WinXP
By Raymond
Removing MSN? Some of you out there may wish to remove
MSN Messenger from Windows XP. I know it's hard to believe.
But, it doesn't appear from the Add/Remove Programs applet
in the Control Panel. In order for it to show up there,
you must first edit the file named sysoc.inf. This file
can be found in a folder named INF, which is a subfolder
of the Windows folder (or in some cases the winnt folder,
depending on how your OS was installed). You can open
that file in notepad. Look for the following line to edit:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
and then remove the word "hide" while leaving
the commas on place (""). Save and close the
file, now open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control
Panel, so now you can remove it like any other program.
