Microsoft ramps up Xbox 360 shipments: Microsoft Corp. has ramped up shipments of its Xbox 360 console to widen its head start on video game rival Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3, the software giant's chief financial officer said.
The world's largest software maker raised the bottom line of its Xbox 360 sales target range for the year ending June 30 to 5.0 million to 5.5 million units from an earlier range of 4.5 million to 5.5 million. Full story here!

Microsoft to ship 5.5 mln Xbox units
Microsoft Corp. expects to ship as many as 5.5 million units of its Xbox 360 video game console worldwide by the end of June 2007, Chairman and co-founder Bill Gates said.
In a speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Gates said the company expects between 4.5 million and 5.5 million units of the game console to ship, according to a company statement.
More than 50 Xbox 360 games geared for high-definition TV will be available by the end of June, Gates said. More Here!

Men face criminal charge for Xbox tampering
U.S. prosecutors have charged three men with copyright infringement for selling modified Xbox consoles that enabled the original video game machine from Microsoft Corp. to play pirated games.
The criminal complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday named ACME Game Store co-owners Jason Jones, 34, and Jonathan Bryant, 44, as well as Pei "Patrick" Cai, 32.
The complaint alleges that Jones and Bryant sold Xbox systems that Cai modified with chips and hard drives that allowed users to copy rented or borrowed games onto the console for future play.
All three men are charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit copyright infringement and to violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The charge of conspiracy carries a maximum possible penalty of five years in federal prison. More Here!

Microsoft unleashes new Xbox in Japan
US software giant Microsoft went on the offensive on the home turf of its Japanese rivals Saturday, launching its sleek new Xbox 360 console ahead of the holiday season in a tough battle for business.
Some 200 game fans queued up for the main launch event that began at 7:00 am at a music store in central Tokyo's fashionable Shibuya district.
"We signal the beginning of what we believe will be market leadership even here in Japan," Xbox marketing head Peter Moore said at the launch. More here!

Microsoft sued over alleged Xbox 360 glitch
A Chicago man who bought Microsoft Corp.'s new Xbox 360 has sued the world's largest software maker, saying the new video game console has a design flaw that causes it to overheat and freeze up.
The proposed class action claims that in Microsoft's bid to gain share in the $25 billion global video game market, the company was so intent on releasing the Xbox 360 before competing next-generation machines from Sony Corp. and Nintendo Co Ltd. that it sold a "defectively designed" product. XBOX 360 Hits the stores at midnight today: The midnight oil will be burning at some stores as game geek's wait to buy a XBOX 360 at midnight. Microsoft has limited the number Xbox 360 to about 10 per store. Me, I can wait, I like playing my games on my super charged gaming computer that's only for playing Pc games. I know some of you like playing your games on a gaming console like the XBOX 360. I know some of you can't wait to get their XBOX 360, more power to you.
The Xbox 360 is at this time the most advanced gaming console in the would. It has high definition graphics, you can listen to music, witch DVD movies even look at your digital photos. If you own the older XBOX games and want to play them on the new XBOX 360, you will first need to download software to play the older XBOX games on the 360. You will also need a high definition TV/monitor to see the better XBOX 360 high definition graphics. So if you use your old non-high-definition-TV to play games, the graphics will look the same as the old XBOX graphics.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 costs around $400.

Xbox 360 to Launch in U.S. Nov. 22: The next version of Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox game console will be available in the United States two days before Thanksgiving, in time for the important holiday shopping season, the company said.
The Nov. 22 launch of Xbox 360 in North America will be followed by a Dec. 2 launch in Europe and a Dec. 10 launch in Japan. Full story here!

Microsoft Rolling Out Two Xbox Versions
When Microsoft Corp.'s new Xbox video game console comes out this fall, consumers will be able to choose between a fully loaded system and a more basic version without a hard drive, wireless controller and other features.
The premium Xbox 360 console will sell for $399.99 in the United States, Canada and Mexico — nearly triple the price of the current system — and 399.99 euros in continental Europe, Microsoft announced Wednesday. Microsoft unveils new Xbox 360, takes aim at Sony: Microsoft Corp. unveiled its new Xbox 360 on Thursday, taking aim at Sony Corp. in the video game console market with a machine sporting high-definition graphics and features that make it an entertainment hub for the living room.
The world's largest software maker said its second generation Xbox will be on U.S. store shelves well in time for the 2005 holiday season that begins in late November, but it did not say how much the white-and-silver concave console would cost.
Among the features are three IBM microprocessors that are expected to deliver powerful computing and advanced graphics, as well as a detachable 20-gigabyte hard drive and the ability to customize the machine's front panel with detachable face-plates.
Microsoft's Xbox business is arguably the Redmond, Washington company's biggest bet, costing the software giant more than $1 billion in sunk costs every year since 2001.
Microsoft, with deep pockets and a reputation for persistently chipping away at competitors, has Sony squarely in its sights at a time when the Japanese consumer electronics maker is struggling with a top-level management overhaul and weak profitability.
