Sony recalls 3.6 million PlayStation 2 adaptors
Sony said it would recall 3.6 million adaptors for its popular PlayStation 2 game console sold worldwide because of a risk of injury from overheating.
About 2.3 million, or two thirds of the affected consoles, were sold in Europe, while 960,000 were sold in North America, 210,000 in Asia and 60,000 in Japan, the Japanese electronics giant said Tuesday.
Sony received some 40 complaints in North America that included two users suffering light burns.
The machines have a free-standing adaptor that will be replaced free of charge.
"The adaptor trouble could lead to overheating or damage to the game consoles," said a company spokeswoman, adding that the affected consoles were made from August to December 2004.
Owners can check whether their adaptors are being recalled on the website www.ps2ac.com. (AFP)
