power-on passwords as options. If you manage to forget
your password, then there's a few ways to get into the
computer. Disconnecting the battery (hope it's not soldered
to the motherboard) and waiting for the power to slowly
drain out of the CMOS chip, and setting the jumpers.
To setup your password: The setup program is usually
built into your computer, and is accessed with different
combinations of Keystrokes. For example, you push the
Delete key while the computer is booting. More key strokes,
Ctrl-Alt-Enter, Ctrl-Alt-Esc, and Ctrl-Alt-Ins. Some computers
flash a rectangular-shaped cursor in the upper-left corner
of the screen for a brief period while booting up; if
you press F1 or F10 (depending on the computer) during
that time, then the computer will enter it's SETUP. You

Depending on your computer motherboard you can:
1. Try to locate and change the position of a jumper
that will clear your computers BIOS settings.
2. You can unplug your computer and pull out the battery
that powers the BIOS settings in RAM.

The Jumpers:
For those of you who saved your the manual that came with
the computer motherboard, go to the head of the class.
This is one very good reasons for you to kept the manual
in the first place, so you can take a look in it to see
what options you have regarding the CMOS. You will find
the jumpers in the NORMAL position, and there may be one
or two other options
After you change the jumper from NORMAL, you should usually
reboot your computer with the jumper in the alternate
position (NOT NORMAL) to clear the password and all of
the BIOS settings.
Now reset the jumper to NORMAL and then reconfigure the
BIOS settings to what they were before you started. Having
a backup of your BIOS settings will come in handy at this
point. There is software on the Internet that will back
it up for you. Try doing a software search for BIOS software.

The battery:
The second choice for getting around your lost
BIOS password setting is to simply unplug the your computer
and pull out the battery that powers the RAM that holds
the BIOS settings. Simple!
The motherboard battery typically is a low voltage battery
that looks like a watch battery. Tip: be very careful
removing the motherboard battery from its holder, or you'll

It typically only take a few minutes of no power to lose
your BIOS settings, It could take longer, In that case,
you can touch the battery connections (with the battery
removed) with a [10,000-ohm resistor] to discharge any
stored energy in the system.
Once the settings are lost, just replace the battery
and restart the computer, resetting your BIOS settings
in the CMOS.
Some of the major drawbacks to using this method include
the following:
The battery could be soldered or glued to the motherboard.
The battery holder could be broken during removal.
