Steps: Install an Internal Computer CD-Rom or DVD Drive:
1. Shut down the computer, but leave it
plugged into surge suppresser, and remove the cover.
2. Your existing CD-Rom drive is probably
hooked up by its wide date cable to the secondary EIDE
channel connector on your motherboard, and that cable's
extra connector is the best place to hook up your new
CD-RWdrive.
3. If you find the hard drive and CD-ROM
drive both attached to the primary EIDE channel connector,
consider attaching the CD-ROM drive to the secondary channel.

4. If a CD-ROM drive is already connected
to the second EIDE connector on the motherboard, set the
CD-RW drive jumpers to slave and hook up that drive to
the extra connector on the cable. Make sure the edge of
the cable with the red making is connected to pin 1 on
the CD-RW drive (usually next to the power connector).
5. If nothing's attached to the second EIDE
connector on the motherboard, set the CD-RW drive jumpers
to Master, and use the cable that came with the drive
to connect it to the motherboard.
6. Connect the audio cable from the CD-RW
drive to your sound card input port on your PC sound card.
If you want your CD-RW drive to play music and audio,
you'll likely need to disconnect your CD-ROM drive's audio
cable or buy a CD-ROM audio line divider, since most sound
cards have room for only one cable.
7. Replace PC cover, and turn on the computer.
If you installed an internal EIDE CD-RW drive in Windows
98, Me, 9X, Windows should detect it automatically at
startup and install the required driver. You may be asked
to insert your original Windows 9X CD-ROM.
8. Install CD driver software according
to the manufacturer's instructions. The procedures vary
by manufacturer, follow the manual's directions closely.
9. If Windows or the installation software
can't find the drive, go to the start > settings >
control panel, and double-click the system icon, and click
the Device Manager tab. If your new drive is shown with
an exclamation point (!) next to it, right click on your
new drive and delete it. Windows will ask you to reboot,
reboot windows this time windows should find your new
drive. Install an Internal Computer CD-Rom or DVD Drive.
Tips: IRQ conflicts
and other compatibility issues are common when connecting
peripherals to PCs. Contact the manufacturers of your
computer and CD drive if you have problems getting the
drive to work. If you will not be playing music using
your CD drive, you do not need to connect the audio cable.
Connect magnetically shielded speakers or headphones to
CD drive if you wish. Install an Internal Computer CD-Rom or DVD Drive. Remember to come back to WebTechGeek.com
