"lot of time and effort has gone into bringing this mod to the stage that it is in today. Hopefully all fatal bugs have been removed from this version and as such, version 1.0 is considered the latest stable release of the mod. If however you find any bugs with this version of Classic Doom 3 , we urge you to post your findings in the following thread:"

Doom 3 Free Demo Download:

For those of you that haven't bought Doom 3 yet, id Software has produced a playable demo of Doom 3's with three level Mars City mission.

The demo is 461 MB download and requires a recommended minimum of a 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor or AMD Athlon 1500, 384 MB of RAM, 2 GB of free hard drive space and either an nVidia GeForce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500 (or better) to play. The demo can be downloaded from www.doom3.com

Long-awaited 'Doom 3' begins onslaught at 12 a.m. Tuesday: There aren't a lot of people who get excited about impending doom — unless it's Doom, the top-selling computer game.

The long-awaited Version 3 descends tonight, and its arrival, along with a few other top games this fall, is expected to juice up the gaming industry. (Related story: Doom 3 could be groundbreaking — like its predecessors)

Best Buy stores in Plano, Texas; Richfield, Minn.; New York; Los Angeles; Sterling, Va.; and White Marsh, Md., are hosting exclusive midnight sales events Monday night, and other retailers follow throughout the week.

Initial shipments ($54.99; rated mature, for ages 17 and older) of the PC game could approach 1 million; total sales of at least 4 million are expected. That's way beyond sales for a typical PC game but short of all-time best seller The Sims (more than 8 million). A version for the Microsoft Xbox is due later this year.

It took nearly four years for the second follow-up to the 1993 first-person shooting classic to reach stores.

"Doom 3 is a sure-fire hit," says analyst David Cole of research firm DFC Intelligence.

That's good news for a slumping industry; PC game sales last year dropped to $1.2 billion from $1.4 billion in 2001 and 2002. Computer makers and graphics card companies also stand to benefit as gamers trade up or upgrade systems so the game looks better.

More long-awaited video-game titles are coming this fall:

•Halo 2 (Microsoft/Bungie, Nov. 9). A sequel to the space combat best seller for the Xbox video game system.

•Half-Life 2 (Vivendi/Valve Software, no final date announced). Expected to rival Doom 3 for top PC title of 2004. The 1998 original sold more than 8 million worldwide.

•Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Take Two/Rockstar Games, October). This installment in the free-form drive-by gangster series is for Sony PlayStation 2.

Doom 3 is a far cry from the original, in which gamers traveled through corridors stocked with monsters that, when dispatched with various weapons, exploded in chunks of cartoonish blood. (The game was cited in congressional hearings on game violence.)

The new game is more realistic — and intense. Says id Software technical director John Carmack: "We can rely on more subtle levels of light and create moods, film director-style." Source: USAtoday.com

Activision, Id Set Summer Launch for 'Doom 3': Video game publisher Activision Inc. and games developer id Software on Tuesday said that the highly anticipated game "Doom 3" will be released this summer.

"Doom 3," which was previewed during the E3 video game industry trade show two years ago, will be released for personal computers this summer. An Xbox version of the game is also expected this year.

The two companies made the announcement during the E3 show in Los Angeles.

Fans have awaited the release of the game for years, given the long and successful history of titles like "Doom" and "Quake" from id, whose top games designer John Carmack is considered a legend in his field. Carmack also designed "Doom 3."

Last week, Activision said that for financial planning purposes it was assuming the game would be released in the quarter ending in September, though it cautioned that final control of the release was out of its hands.

In the past, when asked when the game would be out, id officials have said only "when it's done."

In a statement, the two companies said that "Doom 3" would be released "this summer," but gave no specific date.

Halo for Windows Trial Version: Microsoft Game Studios today announced that the trial version of Halo for Windows is now available at the game’s official Web site. With the trial version, gamers can test their combat-readiness on a small scale before plunging headfirst into an interstellar war to save humanity. The full version of Halo for Windows is now available in North America for for a suggested retail price of $49.95 (U.S.). Halo for Windows was the No. 1-selling PC game and No. 2-selling PC software title for the week of September 28 through October 4.

In the trial version, gamers can experience both single and multiplayer gameplay, including limited vehicle combat. In the single player campaign level “The Silent Cartographer”, gamers assume the role of super-soldier Master Chief as he takes on the fierce alien faction known as the Covenant. In the multiplayer map “Blood Gulch”, up to 16 human opponents can light each other up with devastating weaponry and combat vehicles, including the new Rocket Warthog and the Banshee, either online or via LAN connection.
